Ruth Turyamureeba

With some difficult challenges at home and three children to raise Ruth wanted to take positive action to change her circumstances and be able to both pay for school fees for all three children and purchase critical home supplies such as salt for cooking.

Using the sewing machine Ruth decided to create a business offering a fantastic tailored-dress making service.  Local women choose and buy beautiful fabrics and then work with Ruth to design their very own unique dress, which Ruth then makes. The result is stunning and Ruth’s reputation is building throughout and beyond the village. Momentum is building and Ruth is energized.

She is able to cover much of the cost for schooling and the basics at home; it is a great relief for her and fantastic progress for the whole family.

Speaking with Ruth she commented:“Ride 4 a woman is an amazing organization looking out for and empowering local women every day.  Eve, Dennis and the team have helped me so much – the only work I had before this was digging; it was very hard and poorly paid. R4W and the microfinance scheme has helped me to learn new skills, make new friends, find sponsors to help support the education of my children and has eased the pressure in our family home; we have a happier life now. I work from my home to keep the costs down and hope to get more support from R4W to grow my business further.  I am very positive about the future.”

Ruth is frankly an impressive lady; both bright and measured. Not only does she engage with and benefit from R4W’s microfinance scheme but she also plays a critical role at R4W, as chairperson of all the women, representing them, their issues and ideas at Executive board level.
